At 57, Roller Derby's "Duchess Down Lo" Can Take the Hits"

Ida Burton, or as her teammates call her, Duchess Down Lo, has been playing roller derby for nearly seven years. Burton yearned for the feeling of playing a team sport and after watching her daughters play sports growing up, Burton found her love in derby. But “Duchess” is not like every other derby player though, she is 57. Burton says that her favorite part of playing roller derby is the team spirit. 

Flying with Aerial Yoga

Using a silk aerial hammock suspended from the ceiling, Aerial yoga students at Honor Yoga in Jackson, NJ explore new and traditional yoga postures with their body weight either partially or fully supported. Students say that this allows for expanded flexibility, increased range of motion, a lengthened spine, and relaxed nervous system while also building strength. Aerial yoga was developed over ten years ago and has recently become the new craze.

What used to be a primarily Irish/Italian neighborhood, Fishtown in Philadelphia is undergoing a "hipster" gentrification. What used to be a Democratic stronghold, even the most dedicated Democratics are unsure of who they are going to vote for. 

Montclair State University Women's Lacrosse

In 2014, the women’s lacrosse team was not used to losing. The Red Hawks won 14 games straight, going undefeated before falling in two losses at the end of their season. This year, the team has suffered from some early road bumps, but is moving the program a new direction.

Wired Jersey Spotlight: The Julius Quartet

Forming at the Boston Conservatory the Julius Quartet has recently found a new home at Montclair State University. Now at MSU the quartet has been studying under the famous Shanghai Quartet. In a effort to give back to the community and inspire young musicians themselves the Julius Quartet has made arrangements to play at the Newark School of Music. Wired Jersey takes a closer look.
